Random thoughts on my way to lunch
About 10 years ago, the radio stations started playing 80’s music over lunch. Shouldn’t they start playing 90’s music? I mean there are only so many times I can listen to Electric Avenue.
Corollary: I need to find a new radio station. That, or remember to bring my iPod.
Never have anything electronic clipped to your belt, especially a cell phone. You’re not Batman. Besides, you’ll probably regret any photo taken of me five years later—“I thought that was a cool thing to have?”
Corollary: There is no way a headset is ever going to look good on you unless your name is Madonna. Take it off at the earliest opportunity.
Appletini
I got some new martini glasses today. As soon as I unpacked them, I washed them and put them in the freezer. Dave suggested I try to make some apple martinis with them. I try every drink on myself before subjecting anyone else to them, so a quick stop to BevMo, and I find my bartending skills have atrophied to the point of uselessness:

Meebo in the Times
Congrats to Seth, Elaine and Sandy of Meebo for their writeup in the Times.
Excellent!
Krugle
At ZendCon during one of my “wander around in a nice inebriated stupor while supposedly maybe promising M— that I’d go see Facebook’s API talk” times, I ended up at the Krugle booth and talked to Mel Badgett their V.P. of Product Management, which quite frankly, was much more interesting than learning about an API I already know about.
I suppose I should talk about Krugle because they gave me a $5 Starbucks gift card which will may have a little use when I’m out with friends who need to get their fix—by my count, that’s just about anyone here in the Bay Area.
For those who don’t know, Krugle is a code search engine, like the one Google has in their labs section. Only probably a fair bit more complete than Google’s because Google and vertical search has been an unmitigated disaster, IMO.

YUI headscratcher
In the Yahoo! User Interface Library, what is the difference between YAHOO.util.Dom.getX();YAHOO.util.Dom.GetY()
and

What happened to the RAZR?
On the way to work today, I heard an radio commercial selling the Motorola RAZR going for $49.95. This might have sparked some interest if I didn’t already know you can make $50 by getting a RAZR with contract. It is really hard to believe that less than two years ago, Bill and I were talking about how the RAZR would be the next StarTAC—he ended up getting a RAZR, though I didn’t.
That’s why I loved reading the Low End Theory article on the RAZR that was posted today.

Purpose of Hands
When Drew finished the Mac client for release, I sent an “update request” to all my address book trying to get them to join Plaxo.
The Update Request has them update information in my Address Book, instead of asking them to become a member where the information is updated automatically and they get synchronization between their address books and with my contact information to boot. I wanted the latter but that only happens after the user has already done the former. I’m confused just trying to explain it.
See the problem is that the former benefits just me. The latter benefits them first, and me second.
Buried in the Windows client, there was an invite wizard and with today’s release this is exposed from the website under the campaign: “The Purpose of Hands.” (There is a pretty sophomoric parody on a tag line like that that I thought of while working on these pages—I’m sure you can guess:)
November baby
I finally am going Intel.
With the 17″ notebook, everything (i.e. what backpacks you purchase) revolves around it. Also since the resolution of the 15″ is the same as my old 17″, I’m switching back to 15″.
