About various photos I’ve taken. Unlike other entries, these are dated with the date I took the photo (or thereabouts).

The 50mm group has a bi-monthly contest. I threw a photo in and won. My lucky day!
The key to this shot was a simple vertical flip. I used a small aperture on my Lenbaby to get a little blurring on the edges of the shot. Besides when you are focused this close, you really need as much depth of field as possible.
Unfortuantely, according to new rules I can no longer submit my Lensbaby shots. Whew! Just under the wire. 🙂

Mike Fletcher asked me about shooting the Golden Gate Bridge because he is coming up here soon.
I was shocked to find I haven’t processed any photos of it, even though I drive over it on my way to hikes in the north. In fact, I only took photos of it on one day, and not the best of conditions: morning instead of evening, and in the late afternoon haze instead of a foggy day.
Still after a little work, they came out pretty well:
I was supposed to go to Yosemite today but had to cancel. 🙁
Based on discussions on flickr which reminded me about the rockslide in Yosemite blocking 140, I thought others would find this tip useful:
It is simply a must to subscribe to Yosemite Blog before your trip out there to supplement your trip. Besides some wonderful photos by the owner and other contributers, there are updates about the weather and road conditions, hiking tips and discussions. For instance, did you know the cables to Half Dome have just been put up?

Last Saturday I took some photos at the Human Race, this was my first attempt at sport photography, something my camera (and background) is not suited for at all. I learned a lot of things that day, mostly about how stupid a photographer I am.
Caitlin was the official videographer of the event and I tagged along in order to practice some sport and candid photography.
What follows is a discussion of that and as time goes on, I’ll post and process more photos. If you can’t wait, you can view the view the official photographs or look at Caitlin’s set of the photos I took.

Today, I saw a poster next to Michael Rowley’s desk and I asked if any of the baseball fanatics at Plaxo knew which stadium it was of.
Nobody did.
I mentioned that I thought that it looked like Forbes Field to me. Given what I remember of the remains of it (the right field wall and home plate), it looks like the Cathedral of Learning would have afforded exactly this sort of view.
(When I was a kid, I used to point at the Cathedral of Learning, “the tallest schoolhouse in the West” and say “my mommy works there” (she actually worked nearby). My mom said that when I was younger I thought it was the Washington Monument: “Whenever we passed it, your eyes would get wide and you’d say reverently, ‘Washington!’”)
It turns out that stopping following baseball after the 1994 strike and being a die-hard Pirates fan had its advantages—it is a view of Forbes Field from the Cathedral of Learning.Continue reading
In 1999, I used to eat lunches in Novell’s offices (now eBay’s headquarters). In 2000, Dave visited me and I showed him all the crappiest food in the valley. In 2001, Dave came to the Valley and we decided we needed to visit corporate cafeteries, because the only thing you got free in the valley, post bubble, was caffeinated beverages.
That was Lunch 1.0 and it sucked.
Then Mark got fired from Google and started inviting everyone to have lunch on Plaxo.
