Me: I was terrible, insensitive, and racist when I was a kid. I mean, this was the sort of jokes I told when I was young: ‘Hey, what do you call a quadriplegic in the water?’
Her: What?
Me: Bob.
Her: That’s horrible!
Yes, it is. Now that I am older, I see my younger self and realize I have shame, regrets, and eventually grew out of such things.
Others have no shame, nor regret, and never, ever grew out of them. The world passed them by, and they don’t even know it. They are terrible, insensitive, racist, and horrible.
This one observation explains politics, religion, and our society.
I feel this very very deeply.
