[...] Nowadays I hear a lot of people saying 6 megapixels is good enough. My opinions are clear: 2.5 megapixels was enough to convince me to abandon film; 6 megapixels is indistinguishable from film; and since, reality trumps theory, you can get away with even more. More and more I’m seeing the gradual death of the megapixel myth before my very eyes among professionals, journalists, and consumers. [...]

Eli,

Thanks for your comments. I agree entirely.

A 5D? I’m jealous. :-) Hope you take a lot of great photos with it!

I also think that on a pocket camera there's no real reason to go above 3.2-5.0 mp. I don't get the whole "11mp pocket camera with more noise than a television tuned to a dead channel" phenomenon.

I have cropping issues, but most of them are automatic because I always tilt like 0.03 degrees off when I shoot hand-held. When I use the straighten tool in Aperture it of course re-crops the photograph to fit the data.

I upgraded from a Rebel XT to a 5D because the 5D has a full-frame sensor, not because it had more mp on a stats sheet. Upgrading from the XT to an XTi would have been insane, though I'd love to have that sensor cleaning system. That's OK, though, I keep my rocket blower with me wherever I go :0
