Nikon D50 = The Best Noise Performer (compare Canon Rebel XT)...

I had the chance to test the Canon XT and Nikon D50 at the same time during a whole day…..and I leant towards the D50…why??? because I noticed eight differences:
1. D50 is less noisy than XT from Iso 200 to 800 and also crispier.

[...] I do not believe that the Canon EOS Rebel XT is “quite a bit lower” than the D70. It is true from a marketing standpoint, the D70 shares the mid range along with the Canon EOS 30D, but the D70 is long-in-tooth, with most of the essential features trickled down to the D50. I think that Nikon will have to refresh the D70s later this year in order to compete with the price drop in the 30D (though I suspect, unlike the EOS 30D, which should have been called the 20D mark II, it will be a real upgrade).
[...] This is very true, but consider that a Nikon D50 with an 18-200VR lens would cost around $1275 while a Coolpix 8700 is around $480 (B&H prices to be fair). The problem here is a lot of people who can’t spring the $1300 for this combo aren’t going to get a Coolpix 8700, they’ll either get a pocket camera or a $500 dSLR w/kit lens I mentioned in the above post. Add to this the fact that either choice will make more net money for the manufacturer than the bridge camera and you have the death of a camera. [...]

I went for the D50, about 6 months ago now, and haven't regretted it once. My biggest reason for grabbing the D50? It was $100 less for a kit complete with a 70-300mm lens (the one that usually went with the D70s kits) than the D70s body.

I've got a fair amount of use out of the 70-300mm lens - I've taken to just throwing it on and going for walks, and getting some nice shots.

I'll sacrifice a small amount of convenience for that lens.

[...] To the original poster: don’t believe the bullshit about how the 350D should be compared to the D70s and not the D50. In some ways, the D50 is a better camera than the D70s. I think if you go to the store and try them out, one of these cameras would definitely speak to you more. [...]

"The BKT button is gone. I use bracketing often. You can do this through the menus in the D70, but I avoid menus. I think every photographer should demand more buttons and dials and less menus in their camera."

I think you mean D50, the D70 _has_ the bkt button and the D50 does not.
