[...] Today we salute you Mr. anonymous put-down chalker. 1 Though Rikk might be very interested in the “Win a Trip with Thomas Freidman.” Anyway, despite Tom Friedman’s recent conversion and I’m in agreement with many of the things said in his interview with Terry Gross, I’m still of the opinion that he is a libertarian nitjob, not qualified to talk about economics. The only columnist at the Times worth his salt is Princeton economist, Paul Krugman. You can take that fact to the bank. 2True to my word, I stopped reading the New York Times Op-Ed when they started charging. I picked up the Washington Post, but am in the process of dropping them because their idiot ombudsman feels that her job is to act as a mouthpiece of the Post instead of one of it’s readers. I’m keeping Dan Froomkin’s “White House Briefing” because it is an excellent summary of the issues. [...]

[...] As I mentioned earlier the Op-Ed articles which are behind TimeSelect paid-for subscriptions. I noticed that they have nearly completely fallen out of the Time’s “Most e-mailed” newsfeed. Before it seemed that over half the Op-Eds would be on this feed. [...]

The New York Times has an article today about the demise of print newspapers.

I think this is why they put the Op-Ed behind TimesSelect. There is no way to compete on general news because of the internet. Still the problem of opinions is one of exposure, and NYT is losing it.

Wonder if TV News will follow the same course? Right now you see a lot of "investigative reporting" because it is cheap to produce, but perhaps that is next.

So it begins.

PKArchive got a cease-and-desist letter so that ends that gravy train.

It is strange that WSJ provides its columns for free and charges for the content, while NYT does the reverse. I think the right has it right here, but we’ll see.

In the mean time, I’m not going to be linking NYT Op-Eds. Not in protest, mind you, but because it is unfair to be linking password protected content.
